English Day

Thursday , April 5th 2012. Karangturi held the Second English Day with the theme of “Enhancing Indonesian Unique Culture”. As we see nowadays teenagers are not really familiar with their own cultures, especially Indonesia which is a multicultural country, that’s really a big problem for Indonesia. In the other hand, Indonesia has a lot of culture which is a tourism attractation, and how do Indonesia promote it’s tourism destination to every tourist arround the world? In case the citizen not really familiar with it, too. To avoid that things happen to far, we should learn about our cultures, we also must protect and enhance it, because cultures is the part of country’s wealth. In this programme we try to educate and promote our unique cultures for everybody especially for Karangturi’s students first. The programme started at 8.00 a.m. in multimedia room of Karangturi Senior High School. This event was attended by Mr. Harry Santoso (Executive Director of Karangturi), teachers of Karangturi SHS, students, staffs and also teachers and students from Kilmore International Senior High School, Australia. The opening ceremony was started with singing Indonesian National Anthem “Indonesia Raya”, welcoming speech from Karangturi’s Executive Director, then traditional song which played by ‘D-Rect Band Karangturi’, followed by “The Legend of Banyuwangi” a drama which presented by Karangturi Theatre Club, and the last was the performance from Karangturi Dancing Club which performed a traditional dance from Sumatera. That was the ending of the opening session, then the competition started, there were 3 kinds of competitions, ‘Extamporanous Speech’, ‘Story Writing’, and ‘Comic Strip’, those were about the theme of “Enhancing Indonesian Unique Cultures”. The participant was the 10 and 11 graders, they looked so excited during the competitions. There are 3 categories which they are fighting for, First, Second, and the Third winner. The winner was announced on Monday, April 23rd 2012 during the Flag Ceremony. We hope this interesting programme will not end here, there will be another event that really fun and educated. [W.E.C.]
